"Speak for me" campaign against institutionalization of children under three years old

UNICEF in Latin America and the Caribbean has launched the campaign "Speak for me" (#hablapormi) to call attention to end the detention of children under three years in protection institutions.

And it is that in this area of the world alone it is estimated that more than 240000 children and adolescents live in institutions, and of them the most vulnerable are the smallest. For every year that a child less than three years passes in a detention center loses four months of development.

Also in these centers children are more likely to be mistreated and suffer sexual abuse. That is why the campaign aims to find alternatives, and encourage states to legislate about it and curb abuse to defend the rights of children.

The Speak for me campaign and the video is based on the following question:

What would a child say to a group of presidents from Latin American and Caribbean countries?

The message of the video was received by the authorities present at the XXIII Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government in order to promote in their States the right to grow and develop in a family environment of all children living in protection institutions .

Because everyone has the right to full development, but they still cannot speak to ask for it: hence the "Speak for me" campaign to end the detention of children under three in protection institutions, because if they could talk, that's what they would say, as we see in the video images.
