Remove a tumor in the face of a baby before cutting the cord

News like this today is what makes us thank the moment in which we live, in which science helps people survive, and is that the baby we will talk about could have died during childbirth of not having been intervened before it happened.

The girl, who had a tumor of eight centimeters in size that completely obstructed her mouth, was intervened when the mother was practiced partial caesarean section. Thanks to that, they could operate on the girl while still attached to the mother by the umbilical cord.

It is not the first time that this type of intervention is carried out in Spain, since there are already five Spanish hospitals that take advantage of the umbilical cord circulation to operate babies with more guarantees of success. On this occasion, the intervention was carried out by professionals from the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital in Murcia.

The girl, who had been working for 34 weeks when the tumor was removed, was diagnosed at 28 weeks, just one month earlier, when they observed the tumor on an ultrasound seeing that it was growing at a rate of one centimeter per week. In case of not having intervened and waiting for delivery the girl could have suffocated at birth.

To perform the partial caesarean section (only half of the girl's body was removed) and the next operation used two operating rooms, one for each act. Both the mother and Ainara, the girl, were anesthetized at all times. The girl is now high (everything happened on February 21) without any sequel.

Great news, no doubt, because thanks to this act the girl is now perfect. The parents came to affirm that in case the diagnosis had been made before would have aborted most likely, so the possibility of being able to perform these interventions opens a door to hope to avoid problems at birth, solving some malformations prematurely.
