Joana Saldón

When Joana Saldon contacted us to introduce her 'Traveling Moms' website, we thought it would be best for her to tell us about this very interesting initiative.

Joana is the mother of two young children, and He is also a journalist, a profession thanks to which he got his job to become a hobby. It was at the beginning of his professional career in the program 'Muchoviaje' broadcast on TVE and Antena 3, when he discovered the passion for travel.

He affirms that 'being happy is a matter of attitude', and with that positive mentality he faced that fate decided for her and assumed a change that gave her a great opportunity. From the necessary professional parenthesis after becoming a mother, 'Traveling Moms' was born.

Now Joana has two passions: her children and travel, because she believes that 'traveling as a family is a different and exciting way to educate'. And I believe that through his initiative he intends to tell us: Tell your children that traveling is dreaming! I leave you with the interview, I hope you like it and enjoy reading this traveling journalist who is a mother and takes her children wherever she goes.

Peques y Más.- Tell us how the idea of 'Traveling Moms' came about

Joana Saldón.- Every time I was looking for a destination to go with my children, I had to read hundreds of forums looking for information and experiences of other parents and ended up sending personal emails to the hotels asking for specific services. I wondered why in Spain there was no website to solve all these doubts, something very common in the American market.

In 2006 I joined as a reporter the program with which I discovered what journalism was in its purest form: "Direct Spain" on TVE where I have been until it ended in June 2011. There I lived close to today and did a little Everything: friendly parties and reports, daily news anywhere in Spain, and reports with human stories of those that one would wish to never have to tell

PyM.- According to accounts, the worst thing about moving with children is overcoming fear. What do you think are the fears of parents who would like to travel with their children?

J.S.- It is the fear of the unknown. What will they eat, how are they going to be affected by the time change, will adapt to the plane / trip, how they will react there ... But when you make the first trip and check that everything is much easier than I thought, what begins It is unstoppable.

PyM.- Tell our readers why your website will interest you

J.S.-Because it offers practical and real information, not only of travel but also of accessible plans for all types of parents and pockets. Because Traveling Moms show that there are a thousand things to do with children without leaving home, Many of them for free!

PyM.- How old are your children? What is the last trip you made with them?

J.S.- My children are still small, so my trips with them are to "comfortable" destinations, the last Mexico. But my experience as a traveler comes from my years as a television reporter for a travel program as well as dozens of trips with my nephews (one of them to Hawaii) in which I lived the inconveniences of looking for things there for children.

PyM.- In your opinion, what is the best thing about traveling with the kids?

J.S.- Live absolutely different experiences from our normal life, create unique family moments. Traveling with children is a greater challenge than doing without them, but also an opportunity to see and enjoy things that without them we would not have.

Knowing other cultures, cities and experiences opens their minds and makes them better people. Without a doubt, it is one of the most exciting experiences that exist

PyM.- What is your ideal destination with children? And is there a place you would never go with your children?

J.S.- I think it all depends on the attitude, sometimes a getaway next to home becomes the perfect vacation. But I think that with children there are three incomparable trips: Lapland, an African safari and the magic of Disneyworld. I would never go with my children to countries at war or with any risk to them.

PyM.- Who adapts best to travel, children or their parents?

J.S.- The children! They are sponges that adapt to anything, they have no prejudices. For them, life is a game, they don't see problems, but opportunities to have fun. Why not infect us also with your mentality?

PyM- What does it give our children to travel?

J.S.- It opens their minds. Make them more flexible, more patient, more respectful. And above all, for me traveling is a way to help them in their education. Traveling is culture, it is much easier to learn what the Roman Colosseum was if you have seen it in person.

If before being parents we loved to travel. Why stop now? Unlike. We transfer that legacy to our children: traveling is dreaming. You dare?

PyM.- Finally, I know that Traveling Moms was born before your own personal need as a mother, is that so? Has it taken you a long time to shape the project?

J.S.- I've been working as a television reporter for 12 years living 100% non-stop. In my stage on TVE my day to day depended on the present and I didn't even know where I was going to sleep that day. So with the birth of my second son I decided that I needed a change and the result is Traveling Moms.
