In Mexico, Carlos Slim and Salman Khan have joined in a commitment to education using the Internet

A year ago we presented the Khan Academy in Peques y Más and its project that aims for students to learn at their own pace, with information on their progress and in which teachers are the drivers of the educational process reinforcing the ideas of those who learn and especially putting the focus on those who are going lagging behind

So it was a matter of time before initiatives appeared that promoted this objective and gave it wide dissemination. And, in Mexico, Salman Khan and Carlos Slim have announced a Educational Alliance to give Free access to the population of Mexico and Latin America to available courses via Internet. These are courses in English and Spanish, for students, teachers, parents and professionals.

In a joint press conference, Salman Khan and Carlos Slim announced the signing of a collaboration agreement for young students, teachers, parents, researchers and for those who require job skills, have access to educational and training courses . The goal is for the Carlos Slim Foundation to support Khan Academy for its development, so it will provide all the necessary resources for this alliance to thrive in Mexico and from there to the rest of the world.

Khan Academy It is a non-profit organization whose goal is to provide a free and worldwide education For anyone who wants to learn. In this academy you can find more than 3,800 videos that have been seen more than 227 million times by more than 6 million students.

The challenge is adapt a lot of content to Spanish, especially in subjects such as mathematics, science, finance, economics and humanities. The material selected to translate will be the videos with the highest number of visits, the educational impact and all those that include consecutive and complete lessons. The alliance will soon give results and the month of April 2013 will already offer more than 1,000 videos of Khan Academy translated into Spanish.

It is great news for the educational community that can support their lessons in this type of content and facilitate the learning process for children. No doubt language is an obstacle to learning, so having almost a third of the content of the Khan Academy in Spanish is an advantage that we will have to take advantage of all. At home we have the application of the Khan Academy installed on the tablet so we will review the contents as they are made available to students.
