Educational cards: the Constitution is also a matter of children

morning Constitution Day is celebrated in Spain, a holiday in Spain in which the 1978 Constitutional Referendum is commemorated in which the Spanish people approved by a large majority the current Spanish Constitution, in force since then.

There are different publications for children who talk about the Constitution, although generally aimed at children who already know how to read and who explain the text. But looking for material for younger children, I found a job that I found interesting to develop in the classroom of Early Childhood Education or at home with our children from three to five years.

In a work entitled "The Constitution is also a matter of children", the educator Rocío González Pascual tells us that, in spite of how complicated it can be to work on issues as abstract as those of the Constitution in the Early Childhood Education stage, it is possible to transfer some of these concepts in a way that is understandable and interesting for children.

This is a project carried out in the C.E.I.P. San José de Palenciana (Córdoba) with the children of three-year-old Infantil, in which some of the rights of the children that appear in the constitution were worked, related to the stories and children's characters that are familiar to the children .

In fact, all the stories that appear on the cards were already known by the children, since they had heard them at school during the previous weeks. Thus, Little Red Riding Hood took advantage to talk about the right to education, the Little Soldier of lead and the right to health, Hansel and Gretel and the right to the family, the three little pigs and the right to a home, the ugly Duckling and the right to equality ...

In addition to the proximity of Christmas, some Christmas themes were also introduced to relate them to the Constitution (such as the three Magi and tolerance, equality between races ...).

Definitely, Classic children's stories can help us address these prominent issues of the Constitution and the rights of children in general, in a close, understandable and fun way for children.

This original didactic project is undoubtedly a good example of everything we can do for kids to learn from any subject, and from everything classic stories can teach.
