To cope with the crisis and also the white brands that have become strong competitors, the Dodot brand has launched “with the Dodot warranty at a basic price” the new line of Basic Dodot diapers, at a cheaper price than the Stages and Activity line.
I have tried them and I'm going to tell you my opinion about the Basic Dodot based on my experience after three babies and five years changing diapers.
They are available in three sizes and the number of units in each package varies depending on the size: size 3 (4-10 kilos) contains 112 units, size 4 (9-15 kilos) contains 104 units, and size 5 ( 13-18 kilos) contains 90 units. In Alcampo, where I bought them, the price of the Basic Dodot in any of its sizes is 18.25 euros.
I have seen that in other hypermarkets such as Carrefour or Hipercor around 19 euros.
Together with the new line of diapers, the new Dodot Basic wipes have been launched under the same commercial concept. In Alcampo a package of 240 units (in four spare parts) is sold at a price of 5.29 euros.
We will analyze the new Dodot Basic line, both diapers and wipes, with regard to its price and its characteristics.
About the price of the new Dodot Basic diapers and wipes
If we take the calculator and take a few simple accounts we can calculate the price per unit, that is, for each diaper and wipe, to see if it really is cheaper than others, and therefore, if it is convenient.
In size 3 (4 -10 kilos) 112 units - the unit goes to 0.16 euros
In size 4 (9 -15 kilos) 104 units - the unit goes to 0.17 euros
In size 5 (13 -18 kilos) 90 units - the unit comes out 0.20 euros
If we compare it with the line of diapers Dodot Stages (the one that I use), the most comparable
in price and quality, since the Activity line is superior, we find that:
Size 3 brings 120 units and costs 21.30 euros, that is 0.18 euros the unit (to be rigorous 0.1775 the unit, I have rounded)
Size 4 brings 124 units and costs 21.30 euros, that is 0.17 euros the unit
Size 5 brings 104 units and costs 20.20 euros, that is 0.19 euros the unit
That is, between one product and another the price difference is not significant and even in some cases it is not cheaper. Let's see:
In size 3 there is a savings per package of 3 euros (less than 0.01 cents per unit), in size 4 the savings is also 3 euros, but the amount of diapers is smaller, that is, the price per unit It is the same (0.17 euros per unit), while in size 5 the saving is 2 euros but as the amount is also smaller, we find it more expensive to buy the Basic package than the Stages.
As you can see, not everything that glitters is gold and although its image is that of a cheaper product, the saving is not significant and if your baby wears size 5 there is no saving, but rather the opposite.
Now, if you usually buy the Activity line, the difference is more important, but surely if you have discarded the Stages for quality, I doubt that you will buy the Basics (we will immediately analyze the quality).
And this comparison is made based on two lines of the same brand. If we talk about the difference against white brands, which consumers have already chosen in quality with respect to the Stages, it is not important to make the change.
With respect to wipes, the price is 0.02 euros the unit. They are cheaper with respect to the Dermofresh (paq. 24 units) that are worth 0.06 euros the unit and the Sensitive that are worth 0.07 the unit, but if we buy the package of the Dodot Dermoactive wipes of 352 + 80 units, each unit It is also worth 0.02 euros.
So you have to look well to find the real savings. And as in the case of diapers, we do not make a comparison with white brands whose price is most competitive and give great results.
About the quality of Dodot Basic diapers and wipes
I bought the size 3 which is used by my 5 month old baby. At first glance, the diapers are very similar to the Stages, maybe somewhat finer and with the difference that instead of having drawings on the waist, the diaper is plain white and has drawings on the strips.
As for the quality, I was not particularly convinced, at least with my baby. It is still fed with exclusive breastfeeding and the pockets are very liquid, with which side overflows are very frequent.
Due to the consistency of his bowel movements and because he has a pee at night he needs a diaper of maximum absorption. With the Basics he has sometimes had overflows by the legs and the waist, but I have to say that he has also had them with the Stages.
On the pee, if it accumulates all night (10-12 hours, it is desirable not to change the diaper if no poop has been done) and I have noticed that it transferred moisture to the clothes. At least in the case of my baby, which is very "meona".
With respect to wipes, they are smaller and thinner than the other Dodot brands and the Delipus that I use. When I usually use two Deliplus wipes to clean my ass with poop, with the Basic Dodot I used three. Although we buy cheaper, if we need to use more wipes to clean the ass, where is the savings?
Conclusion
Surely, there will be babies to whom the new Dodot Basic diapers will be phenomenal, they will not be irritated by the ass, nor will there be overflows and in addition the parents will save a few euros in the purchase. That is, everyone happy.
With respect to the Stages, the saving is not significant and the quality is a little lower. To those who are faithful to a white brand, to the Stages or to the Activity and are satisfied, I doubt they will change to the new brand.
I do not recommend them for very irritable butts, babies that usually make soft poops or very meon babies, since their absorption is less.
Personally, I will not buy them again. In fact I use them during the day and change them often so that there are no leaks, so if I have to change them more often, there is no saving.
And with respect to the wipes, I am faithful to the Deliplus Aloe Vera because they are cheap, they smell good and are less sticky than others, so difficult that others convince me. If I also need to use more wipes to clean the same, I don't see the savings either.
