White Room in Madrid for childhood cancer research

Cancer affects a large number of children in the world, being the second leading cause of infant mortality. The most frequent is acute lymphoblastic leukemia followed by tumors of the central nervous system and tumors of the lymph nodes.

Research is one of the direct ways to achieve effective treatments and cures in the fight against cancer. With that objective the White Room at the Niño Jesús Hospital in Madrid, the first room in the country dedicated to the research and treatment of childhood metastatic tumors.

It occupies 155 square meters in the Onco-Hematology and Hematopoietic Transplant Unit of the hospital and has four distinct and separate laboratories dedicated to molecular biology, cryopreservation, cell therapy and gene therapy. When working with cultured human cells they have strict measures in terms of pollution control conditions, temperature, humidity and pressure.

Of course, it is a great step in childhood cancer research that Spain has a specialized room in the field of pediatric oncology. Experts have said that it will serve to develop a new experimental strategy for the treatment of metastatic tumors in children.

We hope to know important advances soon as a result of the tests carried out in the new room. Whenever it is to prevent and improve the recovery of cancer children it will be good news.
