The IVI will perform free egg vitrification for cancer patients

The process of vitrification of ovules has already been carried out on 15 cancer patients from all over Spain who have undergone, after ovarian stimulation, the extraction of mature ovules. This enables the practice of assisted reproduction treatments once the disease is overcome. It's good news that this practice of fertility preservation It extends.

The centers of the Valencian Institute of Infertility (IVI) in Spain will perform the vitrification of ovules for free to patients of reproductive age with cancer. In addition, given the high cost of the process (more than 2,200 euros), it seems logical that vitrification is carried out free of charge in these exceptional cases of women who are going to undergo aggressive therapies to treat the disease.

This decision is the result of an agreement between the IVI Federation and the Spanish Association against Cancer (AECC). Vitrification, a technique that has been developed in the IVI in the last two years, has egg survival rates close to 100%.

With this, women who wish could undergo an egg implant once the disease is over. According to IVI estimates, between 40 and 50 patients from all over Spain will undergo this technique annually.
