The lack of a comma in the medical prescription caused the death of a child

A 14-month-old boy has died when he received an excessive dose of the medication with which he was treating the kidney tumor he suffered, 10 times higher. The reason has been an error when prescribing the medication, 165 mg of doxorubicin was administered instead of the 16.5 mg that were necessary. The events happened at the Hospital La Fe in Valencia and it was the last chemotherapy session that the child received.

The parents give their version of the facts and indicate that the error was of the doctor who made the prescription and we do not know if to say that "the fattest" is that after the child died, he modified the prescription sheet to reflect the coma he had not written, he had to administer 16.5 mg instead of the 165 mg of doxorubicin that the child received, which caused him to die. The doctor has been sanctioned with a file, something that is undoubtedly very slight considering that a child has died as a result of the error. We are human and mistakes are associated with us, everyone makes mistakes, despite the consequences, if they are involuntary they can even be understood, but what is not understood is that the error is not recognized and that even attempts to deceive consciously to avoid responsibilities, this deserves to be punished. Valencian health has not yet ruled against this fact and for now the judicial resolution is expected.

In spite of the great respect and admiration that we can feel for all the health personnel and the work that they do, facts like this harm the true professionals, they only increase the fear of the parents in front of the medical actions and more when the errors Doctors do not recognize each other.
