Celiac disease can affect the bones

We have already talked about how to know if your child is celiac, a very important information for parents, since it is a disease with many undiagnosed cases and about which day by day we know more data.

In a report published in the Argentine newspaper La Nación, Dr. Julio Bai, author of a study published in the online edition of the magazine Digestive & Liver Diseaseindicated that Celiacs who are not properly treated, even those who do not manifest the most characteristic symptoms of the disease such as diarrhea, vomiting and weight loss, may suffer bone decalcification that predisposes them to fracture.

It is important that as parents of celiac children the most effective way to prevent problems in the bones of children is taken into account.

He explained that celiac children have a greater predisposition, specifically 33% more, to suffer fractures, even to minimal trauma that in other children would not happen at once.

The cause is that the damage caused by gluteus in the villi of the intestine prevents nutrients from being absorbed from food, including calcium and vitamin D, essential for bone mineralization.

The solution lies, first of all, in diagnosing the disease and then in following the gluten-free treatment supplemented with exercise that contributes to the development of bones and muscle mass, which prevents the risk of fractures in the event of falls.

According to the specialist, a proper diet and physical activity is the best combination for the treatment of celiac children.
